Well its snowy in Toronto at the moment, should have known winter wasn't done, but there can't be much left!   I welcome fresh mud stains at this time of year!

There sure is a lot going on.  Any day ( hopefully by the end of the month) the provincial government will release its next program providing training for new farmers, stay tuned for all the details!

I have switched the update to an online format to give it a more organized form:

Shawn (details below) and we'll see how to proceed depending on level of

Potential Workshop: Seed Saving for the Market Gardener

For those few vegetable farmers and market gardeners who are producing and
saving seed, or would like to, the NFU New Farm Project would like to offer
the first part of a two-part workshop on seed production and saving: Seed
Saving for the Market Gardener. This will include such aspects as seed
garden planning, population sizes, distance/isolation, and general how-to's
on growing quality seed from common garden vegetables each with their
specific needs.

This workshop also has the potential to be a beginning of an on-going
network of seed producers/savers in the region. Together, we can expand and
share understanding of seed saving on a production level, creating a greater
local seed reservoir, with appropriate population sizes and genetic
diversity.

The timing is flexible, but the sooner the better as garden planning is
likely already underway. Mid to late April would work well. Please contact
Shawn Cox ( 613-531-8492 or coxhenderson@sympatico.ca ) if you're interested
in this workshop and make arrangements. Please include in your message two
or three dates that would work for you and we will try to accommodate all
those that are interested in partaking. Coffee and refreshments will be had,
and a good time by all.

Part two of this workshop will be offered in the late summer/early fall and
will include hands-on harvesting and processing of seed in the garden with a
tour and discussion of storage techniques for both seeds and biennial
plants.
