David Cohlmeyer of Cookstown Greens at Eat Local Caledon Event

Eat Local Caledon is hosting its next Making Food & Farming Connections Trade Meeting this Tuesday, April 28th.  David Cohlmeyer, chef, farmer and owner of Cookstown Greens, will be there to share his secrets of growing for the local and Ontario market.  Cookstown Greens has long been known as purveyors of quality greens and vegetables – so much so that many restaurants label their salads as “Cookstown Greens”.  After spending twenty years cultivating and celebrating quality local food, David is well positioned to talk about how and why farmers, restaurants, shops, institutions and farmers’ markets can all improve the trade of local food and strengthen the local food and farming system.

This meeting will be of interest to farmers, chefs, restaurant owners, shops and foodies in general.  It will also provide an opportunity to network and learn of local buying and selling opportunities.

The meeting is on Tuesday, April 28th from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the Caledon Community Complex (6215 Old Church Rd. Caledon East).  For more information and to register for this event, please contact eatlocal@eatlocalcaledon.org or (905) 584-6221.  Admission is free.

Running a sustainable, efficient and fun market garden - May 2nd

May 2nd, 6pm - 9pm, free, Albion Hills Conservation Area* *(location to be
confirmed)*

Running a sustainable, efficient and fun market garden is a rewarding and
inspiring experience.  Especially if you have the right tools!  If you're
new market gardening or thinking about starting, knowing what tools to use,
what supplies you'll need and how to use them is almost as important as
knowing how to grow!  Join Leslie Moskovits, a 3-year CSA farmer to discuss,
share ideas and learn about what tools and supplies are available for the
small market gardener.  From hoes and seeders to row cover and harvest bins,
we will go over any and all questions you might have about what you need to
run your garden.  The format of the day will be a "kitchen table meeting"
style workshop where you will have the opportunity to share experiences, ask
questions and learn about what tools and techniques are available to make
your garden run smoothly and efficiently.

If you're interested in coming, please RSVP to Ali (ali@farmstart.ca or 519

Meaford: Summer rental near Georgian Bay with garden plot

I have a four-bedroom bungalow on a large lot in the town of Meaford. The house is a short walk to Georgian Bay and Memorial Park (which features a sandy beach). I'm looking for someone to rent a room for the summer ($475.00/month). This rent includes a garden plot in the backyard. Ideally I'd like someone who is interested in gardening and permaculture, has some innovative ideas about how to use the land, and might like to explore ways to market the garden produce.

If you're interested, please call Jennifer at 519-538-3117.
