Starting a Farm in Erin : Explore the Possibilities – July 19th

Meet local farmers, Make connections, Enjoy the country side!
Looking to start a farm close to Toronto?
With excellent soil, proximity to large markets and plenty of support for new farmers, have you considered The Town of Erin?
Concerned about the cost of buying land?
Learn about a variety of innovative farming opportunities that may allow you to begin to farm while avoiding the overwhelming cost of purchasing farmland. Find out how you can connect with farmland owners.
Come out on Sunday July 19th to Everdale Farm to find out what Everdale and Erin have to offer you! Meet and learn from local farmers about what its like to farm in Erin as well as find out what programs and resources are available to support new farmers.
The day will begin at 9:30 at Everdale, with presentations on the local farming environment, realestate, markets and local programs to support new farmers: FarmLINK, LandLINK, Everdale Farm and Farmers Growing Farmers Program.
The afternoon will be filled with local farm tours, including examples of successful incubator farming models, where land and equipment are leased from a landowner to a new farmer to set up and establish their farm within an existing farm. Having expert knoweledge close at hand, a place in the local farming community and on-farm access to equipment is of tremendous benefit to new farmers starting out.
This event is free and includes lunch, be sure to register early!

This workshop will provide an overview of the essential aspects of starting and running an urban growing business. Topics covered will be: top crops and strategies for making your enterprise profitable, working with land owners and business partners, urban growing strategies and an overview of start-up & operating costs.

Ecological New Farmers Conference
New Growers New Ideas
Sponsored in partnership by Everdale and FarmStart, the Ecological New Farmers Conference is a one-day event for new or aspiring farmers. Come to the Toronto Botanical Gardens on Sunday, March 8 to hear new farmers' stories and learn from experienced growers.
We'll be offering a full day of workshops on a variety of topics including vegetable crop production planning, mixed livestock production, soil health, urban agriculture and regulations affecting vegetable & meat producers.
There will be 2 streams of workshops:
Explorers – for those actively exploring the idea of farming but not yet certain if a farming future is in the cards.
Planners: for those committed to full or part-time work in the field of agriculture, heading into their 1st or 2nd season.
