FGF Farm Tour - Livestock and Grains in Grey County
Everdale's Farmers Growing Farmers program is hosting farm tours of livestock and grain operations at Bows Bells and Grassroots Organics - Sunday, April 25, 2010
We will all meet at Bows Bells in Markdale (about 2 hours north-west of Toronto) at 10:45 am for a morning tour led by Les Richards. Les manages over 100 acres of grain and hay production for his year-round sheep operation. In the afternoon, we will head to Grassroots Organics where Sean McGivern will show us around his farm where he raises a variety of livestock and rotates grain production and milling on about 1500 acres. The tour will focus on livestock housing, care and pasturing, and grain/feed production. There will also be plenty of time for questions!
Please pack a lunch which will be eaten at a farm in the area. The last tour is expected to end by 4 pm at latest.
As we will be in barns and animal yards, rubber boots are recommended for participants. Also, for biosecurity purposes, please bring along 2 pairs of plastic bags for covering your boots at each farm.
If have any questions, please contact me. If you are interested in being part of a car pool, please let me know if you are providing or need a ride, and from where. Further details will be sent to registered participants closer to the tour date.
Thank you!
