The 2010 New Farmer Calendar is now on sale for $8!
This 5.5" x8.5" full year calendar is published by Everdale's Farmers Growing Farmers program which teaches farm business planning to new farmers in Ontario. Each of the farmers showcased in this calendar is a graduate of the program and is currently farming in Ontario.
Donations are welcome and go directly to supporting our work with new farmers. Donations over $25 will be issued a tax receipt. FGF Farm Tour - Livestock and Grains in Grey County
For FGF Members:
Everdale's Farmers Growing Farmers program is hosting farm tours of livestock and grain operations at Bows Bells and Grassroots Organics - Sunday November 22nd 2009
We will all meet at Bows Bells in Markdale (about 2 hours north-west of Toronto) at 10:45 am for a morning tour led by Les Richards. Les manages over 100 acres of grain and hay production for his year-round sheep operation. In the afternoon, we will head to Grassroots Organics where Sean McGivern will show us around his farm where he raises a variety of livestock and rotates grain production and milling on about 1500 acres.The tour will focus on livestock housing, care and pasturing, and grain/feed production. There will also be plenty of time for questions!
Please pack a lunch which will be eaten at a farm in the area. The last tour is expected to end by 4 pm at latest.
If have any questions, please contact me. If you are interested in being part of a car pool,
please let me know if you are providing or need a ride, and from where. Further details will be sent to registered participants closer to the tour date.

Sustainability is achievable even in the cold northern climate of Ontario. Just ask your instructor, John Wilson, who has built a sustainable modern family home. This seminar will provide you with an introduction to the key concepts of sustainable housing and give you real world examples that work. It covers ecological home design, passive solar concepts, renewable energy systems and water and sewage treatment systems as well as issues such as building permits, zoning, and whether or not to grid tie.

Join us for this day-long workshop and learn how to grow delicious organic vegetables right in your own backyard. This workshop will focus on the bio-intensive method which maximizes the amount of food you can grow in a small space. Topics will include planning for space needs, soil building, seed buying, low maintenance weed control methods and other techniques that will yield a bountiful harvest of veggies from spring until fall!
This workshop is being held at The Stop's Green Barn - 601 Christie St. BARN #4. go to www.thestop.org/contact-us for directions. The Stop hosts a farmers market on Saturdays so parking can be tricky. There are public parking lots at Christie St., Wychwood Ave, and Benson Ave.

The workshop will cover canning theory, equipment, recipe selection, sourcing supplies and of course, hands on canning for everyone to take home! This workshop will have an additional component especially for producers who want to make preserves a part of their value added product line. We will cover costing/pricing, regulation and some marketing in the final hour of the day. Suitable for all skill levels.

Recipient of many gardening awards including 2007 City of Toronto Green Roof Award. Terry has been instrumental in bringing greenroof technology into its own in Canada.
Join us for this day-long workshop to learn how to create a green roof or roof garden on both new and existing buildings. Rooftop gardens improve air quality and reduce CO2 emissions, delay storm water runoff, increase habitat for birds, reduce the heat island effect, reduce cooling costs and increase the value of buildings. From structural issues to plant selection, costs to permits, this workshop looks at the planning and implementation of green roofs on both residential and larger buildings.
